Cybercrimes, Cybersecurity, Malware, Spoofing, Keylogging

This paper discussed the issues of cybercrimes and cybersecurity and the inherent dangers associated with them vis-à-vis the current global challenges, particularly as they affect the Nigerian nation. The paper reviewed the different kinds of computer crimes and noted that crimes could have the computer as the target or as the weapon or as an accessory. The paper also noted that the cybercrime and cybersecurity could come in form of different types of cyberattacks. This includes the various attacking modes such as Malware, the techniques such as Spoofing and Tools such as Keylogging. The paper noted with concern the rate of cybercrime in Nigeria and their implications on the nations’ critical national infrastructures. The paper suggested the way forward and observed that if nothing urgent and precise is done, the combined effect of the present world economic meltdown with the raging cybercrimes will cripple the nations’ fragile political and socio-economic systems. This will no doubt, make the nations’ effort at becoming one of the twenty top world economies by 2020, a mission impossible or a mirage.
